Michael's 6 month appointment

We had Michael's 6 month appointment on July 20th. The pictures are a little fuzzy because I took them with my phone. Below are Michael's official stats:

Height: 27 1/2 in. (80th percentile)
Weight: 17 lbs 4 oz (45th percentile)
Head circumference: 17 1/2 in. (70th percentile)

While waiting for Dr. Smith Michael had a wrestling match with the paper!

Dr. Smith came in (and put new paper on the table) and said Michael is absolutely perfect! He is recovering from croup so still has a cough but besides that is doing great. He is definitely teething and hopefully his first tooth will come in soon. He is sitting up by himself and we are starting solids next week, after his cough gets a little better. After Dr. Smith left, we waited on the nurse to come in for my least favorite part of the vist-shots. Michael found a cute baby in the mirror to play with while we waited!

The nurse came in and Michael had to have his 3rd round of an oral vaccine and two shots. Well, the shots were the easy part. The nurse gave him part of the oral vaccine and he made himself gag and throw up. Two more times of that and we decided he was not meant to have this dose. So the nurse gave him the two shots, one in each leg, and Michael cried for maybe two seconds. I picked him up, hugged him, and as the nurse walked ut the door he smiled at her. He is the most laid back and happy baby! I remember being in tears with James because he cried so hard when he got his shots. Below is a picture of James at 6 months old and his stats from his 6 month appointment:

James Peyton

Height: 28 in. long (95th percentile)
Weight: 19 lbs (75th percentile)
Head circumference: 17 3/4 in. (80th percentile)

So James was a little bigger than Michael at 6 months old. I love looking back at the pictures and monthly letters to see things James was doing at Michael's age now. Michael's next appointment with Dr. Smith is in September when he is 9 months old. The first year is flying by and even though I am happy he is healthy and growing and reaching his milestones, it makes me sad my baby boy is getting so big so fast! He will be walking and chasing his brother befre we know it!

1st Haircut

Michael has needed a haircut for a while but I decided to wait until he turned 6 months old to cut it. We usually go to Snip-Its by SMU to get James' haircut but Sean needed his haircut too so we decided to all go to SportClips with Daddy. Do you think it was time for Michael to get a haircut? No more baby mullet!

I am sure he was thinking, "What is that lady going to do with those?"

Looks like a little boy and not a baby anymore! :(

James always asks Daddy to "fly" and I happen to capture the exact moment of letting go. I love this picture because it looks like James is our litte angel falling from the sky!

6 months old

Dear Michael,

You are six months old today and the last 24 hours have been an adventure! We spent the last week in Red River and had so much fun. You got to see Uncle Scott and met Aunt B. and your cousins Myla and Adyn for the first time! On Saturday, our last day there, you started coughing a very dry cough. By bedtime you sounded like you were barking like a seal. I started researching online on my phone and since croup was going around James' class at school I thought that was what you had. We called the 24 hour nurses line and a nurse called us back right away. We stood in the bathroom and turned on the hot water in the shower and closed the door. This did help your breathing a little and you finally went to sleep. We were trying to decide if we should drive home in the middle of the night or wait until morning. We decided your little body needed rest so you could get well. We woke up early the next morning and drove home. By the time we unloaded you, James, and a few of our bags you started struggling to breathe. I looked at Daddy and said, "Call Mildred to watch James, we have to go to the hospital". Millie was over in 20 minutes and we packed the diaper bag and said good night to James.

We arrived at Children's Medical City ER around 11:00 and since there was only one other little boy there we were seen immediately. The doctor confirmed you had croup and the struggling to breathe was called a strider. You were given liquid steroids and a breathing treatment right away. We had to hold a mask on you for 6-7 minutes for the breathing treatment and you did not like it! You cried the whole time and since you rarely cry you were worn out and fell asleep as soon as it was over. But the good news was your breathing was much better already! You slept for the next three hours while the nurses monitored your heart rate and oxygen level. Mommy held you and rocked you for a while then let you sleep since you always sleep best in bed on your tummy. I sat with you and watched over our precious angel. We were released around 2:00 a.m. and went home. Today you have been much better and when I called Dr. Smith she said as long as your breathing is normal then she will see you on Wednesday at your six month appointment which we already scheduled!

We traveled a lot in the last month. You, Daddy, and James came down to The Woodlands to visit Mommy and stay with me the last two nights of my Teacher Academy then we spent the weekend in Austin and you met Aunt Lea for the first time!We have had a great time on our vacations but Mommy is ready to spend some time at home before I have to go back to work in mid August.

So Michael Scott, what are you up to at 6 months old?

You are 27 1/2 inches long and weigh 17 lbs.

You wear a size 3 diaper now!

You just started wearing 6-9 month clothes

You are teething and we can feel a little bump on the bottom front of your gums.

You can almost sit up all by yourself! You will sit for a few seconds but then fall over.

You are rolling everywhere

You are so observant now and really watch what is going on around you and take it all in

You noticed Chloe and Coco this month a.k.a. Poey and Toto-affectionately renamed by your big brother.

You started playing cars on the floor with James. He wants to play with you so bad but there isn't much you two can do together yet. James also loves to help Mommy take care of you, which I think is so sweet.

You still take a bath in the blue bathtub in the kitchen sink but as soon as you can sit up a little better we will move to the big boy tub!

You are still eating/drinking Goodstart formula and nursing but will be starting solids this week-as soon as your cough is a little better!

The months are flying by and I can't believe you will be 7 months old net month! We love you very much and I can't wait to see how you grow and change next month!

Love,
Mommy

Happy 4th of July!

Happy 4th of July!!! We had the best weekend just being together, swimming, and hanging out with family and friends. We spent Sunday night with our Brookhaven friends and we all went to the golfcourse behind one of their houses to watch fireworks. We all had blankets, chairs, strollers, and coolers. One of the moms brought glowsticks for all the toddlers to wear around their necks. I thought this was genius as we watched our little ones run around the golf course in the dark but could see each of their red, white, or blue sticks dancing in the moonlight. It was James' first time to really see and understand the fireworks and what was going on. I don't know if he had more fun running around on the golf course or actually watching the fireworks! I did not take any pictures on Sunday night and am usually better about taking pictures on holidays. I have a few pictures from the weekend on my phone and below are my two favorites!
